The deceased’s family contends that Chukwudi was subjected to torture during his time in custody, vehemently rejecting the police’s assertion that he was a kidnapper and cultist. According to them, months after his arrest, Chukwudi’s remains were discovered at the University of Port Harcourt, casting doubt on the police’s narrative.

On the other hand, the police maintain that Chukwudi was implicated in serious criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism. They allege his involvement in the abduction of a businesswoman in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, citing evidence linking him to the crime.

Despite conflicting accounts, both parties have agreed to participate in an autopsy to determine the cause of Chukwudi’s death. However, tensions remain high as the family accuses the police of withholding information and obstructing their efforts to seek justice.

Amidst mounting pressure from civil society organizations and public outcry, calls for transparency and accountability in the handling of Chukwudi’s case grow louder. Demands for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for his death underscore the gravity of the situation, highlighting systemic failures within the law enforcement apparatus.

As the investigation unfolds, the quest for truth and justice for Chukwudi Okereke Abraham intensifies, underscoring the urgent need for reforms to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

  • Following the alleged altercation, he was rushed to the Military Hospital on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, for medical attention and theatre evaluation.

  • A family source corroborated that relatives were later informed of the incident, claiming that Bolarinwa reported being severely beaten and subjected to physical abuse during a search for a mobile phone.

  • The family source also expressed deep safety concerns, alleging that this incident follows several previous attempts on his life.

Background on Conviction

Bolarinwa has been serving a prison sentence following his initial remand in April 2022 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

  • He was arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja on a 13-count charge encompassing forgery, possession of false documents, and obtaining money by false pretences amounting to ₦266.5 million.
