A final-year student at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, named Favour Ugwuka, has reportedly taken her own life……CONTINUE READING
According to sources, Miss Favour was found deceased in her hostel at the Ishieke Campus of the university in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Further investigation revealed that despite passing all her courses, Favour repeatedly failed one particular course. Allegedly, the lecturer for this course had made it clear she would never pass.
In a sorrowful video circulating online, purportedly featuring the deceased’s mother, she attributed her daughter’s suicide to a lecturer’s actions. The grieving mother exclaimed, “Dr. Enyi claims to be the best, saying nobody can teach like him. He should come and take responsibility for my daughter’s suicide.”
A fellow graduate of the institution, Rex Nwome, disclosed that Favour’s suicide stemmed from her continual failure in the aforementioned course. He stated, “Favour was my close friend in the English Department. The lecturer in question vowed to prevent her from graduating.”
He continued, “Despite passing all her other courses, she had to pay an additional tuition fee to retake the lecturer’s course. Unfortunately, she failed again. The recent shortlisting of NYSC names, where her name was absent, intensified her depression.”
Nwome described Favour’s desperation to graduate and serve, noting her futile attempts to seek assistance from the university.
The Ebonyi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that it had been reported to their headquarters.
Efforts to obtain a response from the university administration were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

However, both commercial and matchday revenues dropped by nearly 5 percent due to playing without European football.
Key highlights from the financial report include:

Seventh Consecutive Loss: The accounts marked United’s seventh straight annual loss after tax, which included £8.2 million in exceptional costs mainly linked to the departure of manager Ruben Amorim in January after 14 months in charge.
-
Stadium Expansion & Cost-Cutting: The club invested £63.5 million on land adjacent to Old Trafford as part of ambitions to build a new 100,000-capacity stadium, while co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has continued implementing strict cost-cutting initiatives and job reductions.
-
Future Outlook: Chief Executive Omar Berrada expressed confidence in the club’s trajectory and financial discipline, with the club projecting revenues between £740 million and £760 million for the current financial year.
Despite the positive financial outlook and a return to Champions League football under manager Michael Carrick, the team has faced a rocky start to the new Premier League campaign, picking up five points from their first five matches and exiting the English League Cup.
