According to a credible military source, the first operation took place around 10:30 am following intelligence reports of insurgent activity near the Maidabino River Line and Kanawa villages. Combat Team One engaged a group of insurgents who were in possession of stolen cattle. Despite facing resistance, the troops responded with superior firepower, resulting in the neutralization of one insurgent and the dispersal of others with gunshot wounds. Remarkably, no Nigerian forces sustained injuries during the operation.
Furthermore, at approximately 9:45 am on the same day, Combat Team One intercepted suspected stolen cows being moved from Sarika village, Musawa LGA, to Alhassanwa village in Danmusa LGA. The insurgents were compelled to abandon seven stolen cows, which were subsequently handed over to Danmusa LGA officials for further action.
In a parallel operation around 11:25 am, a joint force comprising Combat Team One, the Brigade Mobile Strike Team, the Nigerian Police Force, and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps raided a suspected insurgent camp in Saunin Bala Maidala village, Danmusa LGA. The insurgents fled, leaving behind 18 kidnapped victims, including one male, nine females, and eight children, from Safana LGA. These individuals have been safely reunited with their families.
The military source assured that security in Katsina State remains a top priority, with ongoing efforts to monitor and deter criminal activities, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of the people.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
