The Incident
According to reports, the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, carried out the killings without any intervention from local security forces. A source from the community, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the gunmen, identified as Fulani, attacked the youths who were engaged in a community assignment near the Oyi River before moving into Ogbe Town.
Community Reaction
The incident has plunged the ancient town of Ogbe into deep sorrow. “It is a sad incident that has thrown the ancient town into mourning. Necessary activities are in top gear presently. Ogbe Town needs our prayers and support at this critical period,” the source added.
Political Response
Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, condemned the attack and highlighted the ongoing issues of banditry and kidnapping in Yagba land. He reiterated his call for the establishment of state police to better address local security challenges.
Senator Karimi also urged the Kogi State government to expedite the construction of the Egbe–Ogbe road in Yagba West Local Council to improve accessibility and security in the region. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Ogbe community.
Police Statement
When reached for comment, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP William Ovye Aya stated that the Command had not yet received a report on the incident. He assured that feedback would be provided as soon as detailed information becomes available.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.
