The commission revealed that, upon their arrest, $81,700 in counterfeit $100 bills was found in their possession.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna over the weekend, Dele Oyewale, the commission’s head of Media and Publicity, stated that Haruna, during interrogation, claimed the counterfeit dollars were given to him months ago for safekeeping by an individual named Babangida, who is currently at large.

Yahaya, on his part, stated that he learned of Haruna’s possession of fake dollars through Kabiru, also at large, who connected him to Haruna. Yahaya was to collect the counterfeit dollars and deliver them to a buyer waiting at a predetermined location.

The EFCC also disclosed that other items found in the suspects’ possession at the time of their arrest included a small quantity of a colorless substance suspected to be mercury, a chemical allegedly used in the production of fake dollars.

According to the statement, the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has been praised for its professionalism and dedication in combating corruption and economic and financial crimes. This commendation came during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kaduna State Branch, to the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC.
