In light of the escalating expenses surrounding the installation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) pumps at filling stations nationwide, the Federal Government contemplates extending financial aid to independent fuel marketers. This consideration emerges amidst fervent lamentations from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), citing the exorbitant costs and prohibitive interest rates imposed by financial institutions……..CONTINUE READING
The urgency for government intervention amplifies as the nation grapples with the aftermath of President Tinubu’s pivotal decision to abolish fuel subsidies, triggering an inevitable surge in fuel prices. Despite promises to introduce CNG-powered mass transit solutions as a palliative measure, the burden of funding CNG infrastructure remains a daunting challenge for marketers.
Confronted with the pressing need to mitigate the economy’s reliance on petrol imports, the Federal Government’s ambitious CNG initiative aims to revolutionize the nation’s energy landscape. However, the laudable objectives of this initiative encounter formidable hurdles as marketers confront the stark reality of financial constraints.
In exclusive discussions with IPMAN representatives, the dire need for accessible funding mechanisms becomes palpable, underscoring the imperative for governmental support. Advocacy for the establishment of an ‘energy bank’ echoes throughout the industry, as stakeholders call for streamlined access to affordable loans devoid of exorbitant interest rates.
While the government underscores existing avenues for financial assistance within the downstream sector, concerns persist regarding the feasibility of independent marketers availing themselves of these resources. Nevertheless, reassurances emanate from the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, affirming the viability of financing strategies and the potential for substantial returns on investment.
As the nation eagerly anticipates the rollout of CNG-powered vehicles and the proliferation of refueling stations, collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors remain paramount. The looming prospect of integrating CNG into the nation’s transport system underscores the imperative for swift action and robust support mechanisms.
In tandem with the aspirations of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, fervent appeals resound for governmental backing in facilitating vehicle conversions to CNG. Embracing this paradigm shift promises manifold benefits, from environmental sustainability to cost-effectiveness, yet hinges precariously on the availability of financial resources and strategic partnerships.
Amidst these calls for action, the trajectory of Nigeria’s energy transition hangs in the balance, poised between the promise of innovation and the challenges of implementation. Only through concerted efforts and decisive interventions can the nation surmount the hurdles obstructing its path towards a more sustainable energy future.

Do Not Erase El-Rufai’s Role In Your 2023 Election Victory – Onoh Tells Tinubu.
Denge Josef Onoh, the former Southeast spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to embrace statesmanship and prioritize reconciliation regarding the situation of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an open letter dated September 24, 2026, and addressed to President Tinubu through Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Onoh emphasized that El-Rufai’s foundational contributions to the APC and the 2023 presidential campaign must not be forgotten. Highlighting El-Rufai’s instrumental role in securing Tinubu’s historic election victory, Onoh stated: “We cannot quickly erase from our memories the immense, foundational role Mallam El-Rufai played in ensuring the victory of the All Progressives Congress and your historic election in 2023.”
While describing El-Rufai as rigid, intensely opinionated, and notoriously difficult to work with, Onoh noted that these same traits reflected his deep loyalty once committed to a cause. He expressed concern that some of the former governor’s associates had distanced themselves due to political considerations, but stressed that he was unwilling to remain silent.
Drawing from history, Onoh urged Tinubu to follow examples of political reconciliation, such as Julius Caesar’s clemency and former President Shehu Shagari’s 1982 pardon of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, to demonstrate that mercy and unity can heal political divisions. He argued that presidential intervention would display profound political maturity rather than weakness, warning that leaving a key architect of the current democratic dispensation isolated risks deepening national fractures.
Concluding his appeal, Onoh urged the President to choose compassion over confinement and reconciliation over retribution, ensuring the situation fosters national healing instead of division. “Please, let us get value out of this. It matters,” he added.
