Gunmen Attack Edo Community, Leaving One Dead And Properties Destroyed
A wave of terror swept through Imariogha community, near Okomu Oil Palm Plantation in Edo State, as armed bandits identifying themselves as ‘Ijaw Freedom Fighters’ launched a violent attack on Sunday night. According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the bandits descended on the community, formerly known as AT&P, situated in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo. Their attack claimed the life of one individual.
Confirming the incident, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Funsho Adegboye, disclosed in a telephone interview with NAN that law enforcement authorities were aware of the attack and had visited the affected community. He reassured the public that efforts were underway, in collaboration with other security agencies and Okomu Oil Palm Company, to address the situation and restore calm.
Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene as the assailants, under the cover of darkness, stormed the community from the Riverside around midnight. They unleashed chaos, firing gunshots indiscriminately and setting fire to approximately eight private vehicles. The rampage extended to the destruction of numerous houses, leaving residents in fear and despair.
Mr. Rex Akpokiniovo, a community leader, shared grim details of the attack, revealing that one person lost their life in the assault. Additionally, Pa Gabriel Okorugbe, a prominent figure in the community, sustained injuries during the violent incursion and was subsequently hospitalized for treatment.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard vulnerable communities against such brazen acts of violence. As investigations continue and efforts to apprehend the perpetrators intensify, residents remain on edge, hoping for swift justice and a return to peace and normalcy.

Court Sentences Man to Four Years for ₦16 Million Money Laundering, Forfeits G-Wagon
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
