Addressing the congregation, Onyemaechi revealed that her resignation was motivated by a desire to support her younger brother’s bid for re-election as Chairman of the Aniocha South Local Government Area. She explained that her family had been embroiled in bickering and jealousy over her brother’s candidacy for a second term, leading her to step down from her position in the interest of family unity and her brother’s political aspirations.
Detailing the circumstances surrounding her resignation, Onyemaechi emphasized the importance of adhering to traditional zoning arrangements within the local government. She underscored the need for equitable representation among the different clans, highlighting her brother’s eligibility for a second term as the council chairman, a position zoned to their clan.
Onyemaechi expressed her willingness to make personal sacrifices for the greater good, stressing that she would have resigned regardless of her familial connection to her brother. She affirmed her commitment to ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for all, even if it meant relinquishing her political position.
Prior to her role as Commissioner for Education, Onyemaechi had held various political offices, including serving as a member of the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and as the Director General of the Asaba Capital Territory Agency. Her decision to resign underscores the complexities of familial and political dynamics in Nigeria’s governance landscape, highlighting the intricate balance between personal ambitions and collective interests.
