EFCC Targets Underage ‘Yahoo Boys’: Cracks Down On Fraudulent Document Manipulation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its efforts to combat underage individuals engaged in internet fraud, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’, who exploit legal loopholes by falsifying documents to facilitate their illicit activities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Effa Okim, the Zonal Director of EFCC overseeing Edo, Delta, and Ondo states, reaffirmed the agency’s resolve during a recent visit to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Festus Alenkhe.

Okim highlighted the alarming trend of young fraudsters manipulating age declarations to obtain driver’s licenses and open bank accounts, enabling them to launder their fraudulent proceeds.

Moreover, the EFCC’s crackdown extends beyond the perpetrators themselves to encompass government agencies and individuals complicit in issuing fraudulent documents.

“Edo State, second only to Lagos in convictions for internet fraud,” revealed Okim, emphasizing the severity of the issue within the region.

Expressing dismay at the prevalence of criminality in a historically significant state like Edo, Okim criticized parental negligence, noting instances where parents defend their convicted children by falsely claiming they are minors.

“We often encounter parents asserting their children are underage post-arrest, despite their prior involvement in obtaining illegal documents or opening bank accounts,” Okim remarked, challenging parents to take responsibility for their children’s actions.

In a bid to bolster public awareness and garner support for its crackdown efforts, the EFCC plans to collaborate with the media to shed light on the ramifications of internet fraud and educate the populace on the grave consequences of such criminal activities.
