APC Alleges Panic As Edo Gubernatorial Race Heats Up: Obaseki, PDP Accused Of Desperation
APC Alleges Panic As Edo Gubernatorial Race Heats Up: Obaseki, PDP Accused Of DesperationAs the Edo State governorship election approaches, tensions rise within the political landscape, with allegations of panic and desperation emerging from the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement released on Tuesday, some APC leaders claimed that recent actions by Governor Godwin Obaseki and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) signal a state of panic ahead of the polls.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The leaders accused Governor Obaseki, the PDP, and their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, of orchestrating a campaign of calumny against the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. The allegations center around claims of character assassination and fake news spread with the intent to tarnish Okpebholo’s image and discredit his candidacy.
A recent incident involving the Network of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria, which held a press conference and petitioned law enforcement agencies over allegations that Okpebholo sprayed naira notes at a public event, was cited as evidence of these smear tactics.
David Osarobo, the national coordinator of the APC Vanguard, condemned what he described as the “desperate” actions of Governor Obaseki and his political allies. He emphasized that the APC remains confident of victory in the upcoming election and accused the opposition of resorting to underhanded tactics due to their fear of defeat.
Osarobo highlighted the developmental initiatives of the APC-led Federal Government in Edo State, including infrastructure projects and social welfare programs, as reasons why voters should support Okpebholo’s candidacy. He called on Edo residents to reject what he termed the “tyrannical” rule of the current administration and embrace the APC’s vision for the state’s future.
Despite these allegations, Governor Obaseki and the PDP have not publicly responded to the accusations leveled against them. As the election draws nearer, the political climate in Edo State remains tense, with both major parties vying for support and attempting to sway public opinion in their favor.
As stakeholders await further developments, the allegations of desperation and smear tactics underscore the high stakes involved in the Edo gubernatorial race and the fierce competition between rival political factions.

In addition to money laundering, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Bodejo of financing terrorism.
-
Bodejo is the sole defendant named in the 12-count charge, which was filed in late June 2026.
Allegations and Plea
-
The EFCC alleges that Bodejo accepted various large cash payments in U.S. dollars from Sa’idu Abubakar, including $100,000 in January 2022, $200,000 later that month, $980,000 in February 2024, and $500,000 in March 2024.
-
The agency specifically charged Bodejo with willfully accepting these large cash payments without utilizing a financial institution, as mandated by law, and possessing funds suspected to be linked to unlawful activities.
-
During the hearing before Justice Inyang Ekwo, Bodejo entered a plea of not guilty after the 12-count charge was read to him.

Legal counsel for both the prosecution (Wahab Shittu, SAN) and the defense (Ahmed Raji, SAN) were present, with the defense offering no opposition to the plea proceedings.

“THEY DON’T LIKE ME!”: FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Exposes Tense Relationship With Civil Servants!.
-
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated during a monthly media chat in Abuja that he is unpopular among civil servants.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

-
He attributed this lack of popularity to his efforts to shut down channels for the fraudulent diversion of public funds, explaining that money previously misappropriated by staff is now being redirected toward road infrastructure.
Reasons for Friction
-
The Minister criticized the habit of approving funds for unnecessary activities, such as traveling to conferences in the United States for land administration, suggesting that staff should instead conduct research locally.
-
Wike highlighted a significant shift in budget management, noting that he reduced recurrent expenditure in favor of capital expenditure, moving from a system where recurrent spending accounted for 65 percent of the budget to one where capital projects now receive 70 percent of funding.
-
He maintained that he will not approve large sums for “frivolous” conferences, choosing instead to prioritize infrastructure projects that provide tangible benefits to the public.
-
Conclusively, Wike asserted that because he puts money into roads rather than funding these conferences—which he described as vehicles for corruption—he does not expect to be liked by the civil service workforce.
