In the ruling delivered by Justice Augusta Kingsley-Chukwu, the court upheld the prosecution’s case, finding Telma and Okelekele guilty of conspiracy and murder beyond a reasonable doubt.
Telma was found to have conspired with Okelekele to orchestrate the killing of her husband, Bestman Wagbara. The court revealed that she facilitated Okelekele’s entry into her husband’s room through the back door, where the security guard committed the heinous act.
The incident took place at the Wagbara residence along the Saint John axis of Rumuolumeni-Ogbogoro link Road, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on February 13, 2020.
Following the verdict, Justice Kingsley-Chukwu ruled that both Telma and Okelekele should face the death penalty by hanging.
Chief State Counsel from the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, Previous Ordu, expressed satisfaction with the judgement, describing it as justice duly served. However, Prince Ubojiekere Amadi, representing Okelekele, expressed discontent with the ruling and indicated intentions to appeal, stating that they would review the judgement for further action.
The judgement reflects the commitment of the judiciary to uphold justice and deter criminal activities in Rivers State, sending a stern message to perpetrators of heinous crimes.

When the appointment was first announced, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted Aina’s deep background in digital infrastructure, public-sector reforms, and national examination systems, noting his historic milestone as one of Nigeria’s youngest computer engineering professors.
In his inaugural address, Aina acknowledged the foundation laid by his predecessor—who is widely credited with modernizing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)—and vowed to expand on those achievements. Emphasizing a strong stance against malpractice, he warned wrongdoers that their illicit activities have no place at JAMB, promising to ramp up modern technological investments and deepen partnerships with security agencies to safeguard the integrity of the admissions process.
