Speaking to journalists at his palace, the monarch highlighted the distressing situation, which has caused tension within his community.
“My palace has become akin to a customary court where victims of criminally sold lands come to seek recourse,” lamented the 83-year-old ruler.
He expressed concern over the escalating trend of land sales without the knowledge or consent of genuine landowners, emphasizing the lack of due diligence by buyers before investing significant sums in the hands of these purported land agents.
Eze Ogbenna decried the infiltration of criminals masquerading as legitimate agents, perpetuating the unauthorized sale and resale of land parcels.
He urged the Abia State Ministry of Lands and Housing and the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) to intervene by mandating the registration of all property agents in the state and rooting out criminal elements among them.
