US President Joe Biden Signs Legislation Addressing TikTok Ownership....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has signed legislation aimed at addressing the ownership of the social media app, TikTok.
The legislation, previously passed by the U.S. Congress, mandates TikTok’s China-based parent company, ByteDance, to divest the app within nine months or face regulatory consequences in the U.S.
Biden signed the legislation as part of the $95 billion foreign aid package approved by Congress this week, which includes additional funding for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, on Wednesday.
In response, TikTok has stated its intention to challenge the new law in court.
TikTok spokesperson Alex Haurek denounced the legislation as “unconstitutional” in a statement and asserted the company’s plans to contest it legally.
Previously, TikTok successfully challenged former President Donald Trump’s efforts in 2020 to compel the sale of TikTok through an executive order, which sought to prohibit any U.S.-based transactions with ByteDance if the app was not divested within 45 days.
