The Emir of Minna, Dr. Umaru Faruq Bahago, has formed a 31-member committee focused on combating thuggery and substance abuse to tackle the ongoing issues of youth restiveness and drug abuse among youths in Minna and its surrounding areas.
During the committee’s inauguration in Minna, the Emir emphasized the importance of members carrying out their duties effectively in compliance with established rules and regulations. He also instructed the committee to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies in Minna Emirate to achieve their objectives.
“I pledge my full cooperation at all times and urge you not to spare anyone who seeks to disrupt the peace already established in the Emirate,” stated the Emir.
Niger State Commissioner for Justice, Nasiru Mohammed Mua’zu, echoed the Emir’s sentiments, urging the committee to put an end to thuggery and other criminal activities in Minna Emirate.
“The prevalent youth restiveness and thuggery in Minna and its environs have no place in the emirate. That’s why we’re establishing this committee to tackle the menace,” he remarked.
Mua’zu emphasized that anyone apprehended would be promptly brought to court within 24 hours, stressing the importance of law enforcement officers following due process in accordance with the penal code law.
He also warned that individuals found in possession of dangerous weapons or disturbing the peace would be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Hon. Nma Kolo Mohammed, the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor of Niger State and Jowon Minna, commended the relative peace witnessed in Minna and its surroundings since the formation of the committee two weeks ago. He urged ward heads to be vigilant and prevent the infiltration of undesirable elements into their domains.
Alh. Umar Sanda has been appointed as the chairman of the committee.
