IGP Advocates Merger Of NSCDC And FRSC With Police....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged the Federal Government to merge the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) with the police for greater effectiveness.

Egbetokun made this call at the National Dialogue on State Policing, organized by the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja, under the theme ‘Pathways to Peace: Reimagining Policing in Nigeria’.

Represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Ben Okoro, the IGP argued that the NSCDC and the FRSC were duplications of the police force.

Egbetokun stated that Nigeria was not yet ready for state police, urging those advocating for it to work toward merging the NSCDC and the FRSC with the police for greater effectiveness.

He pointed out that the police were facing challenges due to inadequate training and a lack of adequate manpower.

He further highlighted that most police barracks had deteriorated due to a lack of maintenance and renovation.

“This has had a negative impact on the performance of the policemen,” he said.

Egbetokun also expressed skepticism about calls for state police, stating that Nigeria was not mature enough for it. He added that state police would create opportunities for state governors to use it to suppress opposition in their states.

He argued that creating state police would also lead to jurisdictional problems, resulting in conflicts of interest.
