The Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard of Plateau State has expressed profound concern over the relentless assaults, killings, and property destruction endured by their community amidst appeals for intervention from both military and civil authorities.

In a statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the group, Barr. Farmasum Fuddang and Amb. Duwam, the BCDC lamented the disturbing trend of attacks on civilian communities while imploring the Nigerian military and civil authorities to address the escalating violence.

The statement revealed instances where officers of the Special Task Force Operation Safe Haven were accused of harassing civilian defenders while neglecting to confront Fulani attackers who operate freely. This failure to act, according to the BCDC, exacerbates the dire situation and defies superior orders and military codes.

The BCDC reported recent attacks in the Butura and Tangur districts of Bokkos local government area, resulting in fatalities and significant property damage. Despite residents’ attempts to defend themselves, including resorting to makeshift weapons, soldiers intervened by dispersing their defense efforts, allegedly aiding the assailants.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted instances where military reinforcements failed to engage the assailants effectively, resulting in further casualties and property damage. The BCDC criticized the military’s response, alleging excessive force against unarmed civilians while allowing armed terrorists to operate with impunity.

The group emphasized the need for immediate government intervention to restore security and protect the lives and property of Bokkos residents. They called for an official inquiry into the military’s actions, the dismantling of illegal Fulani encampments, and the implementation of alternative solutions to address the crisis effectively.

Ultimately, the BCDC emphasized that the primary purpose of government is to prioritize the security of its citizens and urged swift action to address the ongoing violence plaguing Bokkos and other parts of Plateau State.
