Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade, the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, led the inauguration of the committee, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability, principles that have been upheld during the previous eight years under the administration of Yahaya Bello.
Ayoade highlighted the OGP as a multilateral initiative aimed at securing tangible commitments from both national and sub-national governments to advance open governance, empower citizens, combat corruption, and leverage new technologies to enhance governance.
She underscored the potential of the OGP program to elevate Kogi State’s profile on the global stage, particularly in the realms of transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.
Ayoade stated, “Today, we are gathered to reaffirm and underscore the government’s dedication to transparency issues. The current administration, under the dynamic leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ododo, has been steadfast in practicing and implementing the principles of open government.”
Furthermore, she highlighted the evolving landscape of citizen involvement in governance, with appointments of individuals from various sectors at all levels of government. Ayoade expressed optimism that embracing OGP principles would enhance existing citizen participation in Kogi State.
The involvement of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the program was emphasized as a means to further facilitate effective citizen engagement and ensure accountability.
Ayoade encouraged all committee members to actively engage in this global initiative, envisioning its contribution to the growth and prosperity of Kogi State.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Ashiru Idris, and the State Chairperson of Kogi NGOs Network (KOGONET), Idris Ozovehe Muriana, are set to co-chair the State Steering Committee, underscoring the collaborative effort across government and civil society to drive the OGP agenda forward.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.
Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
-
Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.
-
Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.
Frank Tietie’s Position
-
During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.
-
Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.
-
He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.
-
Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
