Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nollywood actor Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope. He described the news as devastating and shocking.
In a statement shared on X, Obi praised Junior Pope as an energetic actor who brought both entertainment and enlightenment to Nigerians through his performances. He noted the actor’s ability to bring smiles to the faces of many with his roles in movies and comedy skits.
“The reports of the death of yet another vibrant Nollywood actor, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, have left me deeply shocked. Our entertainment industry, and our nation as a whole, mourns the loss of this young and talented actor,” said Obi.
He emphasized the profound loss to the entertainment industry, which has become a vibrant sector of Nigeria’s social and economic life in recent years. Obi expressed his heartfelt sympathy for the families of Junior Pope and others who lost their lives in the boat accident.
“Death is always a painful experience, but the loss of a young individual with a promising future is particularly devastating. My thoughts are with his family and the families of all those affected by this tragedy,” Obi added.
He extended his condolences to the Actors Guild of Nigeria and the entire entertainment industry, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time. Obi concluded by asking for eternal rest for the departed souls.
