Okai’s remarks come in response to Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly and his subsequent actions.
According to Okai, Shaibu’s decision-making was influenced by poor advice or an overestimation of his political standing. He believes that Shaibu should have remained content with his position as deputy governor until the end of his tenure.
Okai highlighted the traditional power rotation arrangement in Edo State, noting that Shaibu’s attempt to position himself for succession went against this established order. He emphasized that Shaibu, being well-versed in the state’s political dynamics, should have respected the zoning arrangement and supported the emergence of a candidate from Edo Central.
Furthermore, Okai pointed out that Shaibu’s recent political maneuvers have alienated him from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his own party, leaving his political future uncertain. He suggested that Shaibu may face challenges in reclaiming his position as deputy governor or securing another significant political role.
