In a press briefing held in Port Harcourt, Tony Okocha, the APC caretaker committee chairman in Rivers State, unveiled the party’s allegations against Governor Fubara. Okocha claimed that Fubara’s objective behind this move is twofold: to invalidate the laws vetoed by the current House of Assembly and to pave the way for the appointment of caretaker committees to oversee the local government areas in the state.

According to Okocha, the alleged plan involves procuring interim orders from certain judges, which would halt the implementation of laws vetoed by Governor Fubara and declare the current composition of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martins Chike Amaewhule, as illegal.

Expressing vehement opposition to these alleged maneuvers, Okocha emphasized the importance of safeguarding the integrity and dignity of Rivers State. He warned against turning the state into a pariah state due to the actions of one individual.

However, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, dismissed the APC’s allegations as baseless. Johnson attributed the accusations to the APC’s panic over the overwhelming support for Governor Fubara among the state’s populace.

As tensions escalate between the APC and Governor Fubara’s administration, Rivers State finds itself at the center of a political storm, with implications that could significantly impact its governance and future trajectory.

During the event, fans were seen climbing trees and rooftops to see Mikel Arteta’s squad as the players showcased the Premier League trophy. The procession included four buses, one of which carried the Arsenal Women’s team, winners of the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup this past February.

This celebration followed a heartbreaking 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday, where Arsenal ultimately fell in a penalty shootout after misses by Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes. Despite the European defeat, the Premier League title held immense significance for the team, coming after three consecutive seasons as runners-up.
