During a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday, Ahmed Tijani Mustapha, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Kaduna State, emphasized IPAC’s commitment to shaping the political landscape of Kaduna State, advancing the collective interests of the people, government, and various political parties, and upholding democratic ideals, norms, and good governance.
Mustapha highlighted Governor Uba Sani’s revelation of the staggering debt inherited from the previous administration, amounting to $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual commitments. This situation has led to financial constraints, including challenges in meeting salary obligations, and has involved leveraging the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as collateral for specific local banks.
Expressing concern over the negative repercussions of this situation, Mustapha condemned the adverse impact on the state’s development and financial stability, attributing it to a selfish and fraudulent scheme. Despite these challenges, Mustapha expressed support for Governor Uba Sani’s determination to steer the state towards progress and transparency in governance.
Mustapha commended the governor’s efforts to manage the state’s finances without resorting to borrowing, despite the significant debt burden inherited. Urging prompt action, he called on Governor Uba Sani to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate the origins and implications of the enormous debts and contractual liabilities.
