In response to prevailing economic challenges, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a call to action for the people of the Southeast region, urging them to prioritize investments in agriculture and farming activities.
Through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB emphasized the critical need for Igbo philanthropists to support local farmers by providing seedlings and agricultural tools, rather than relying on short-term food provisions.
The statement highlighted the importance of agricultural investment as a means to avert food shortages and starvation in the Southeast and Nigeria at large. IPOB pledged to provide seedlings to selected farmers and ensure protection of farmlands from external threats, particularly Fulani herdsmen.
Key Points from IPOB’s Statement:
- Food Sufficiency Priority: IPOB stresses the importance of creating food sufficiency in Biafra Land and encourages all Biafrans to engage in farming activities, particularly cash crops.
- Averting Impending Famine: With the looming threat of famine in Nigeria, IPOB calls for proactive measures to ensure food security, emphasizing the need for investment in agriculture.
- Support for Farmers: The organization urges investors to establish Agricultural Cottage Industries to process and preserve agricultural products for export, while advocating for support and encouragement for farmers to engage in farming.
- ESN Protection: IPOB’s security outfit, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), pledges to protect farmlands from marauding Fulani herdsmen, ensuring a conducive environment for farmers to operate.
- Call to Action: IPOB calls on patriotic Biafrans to prioritize food sufficiency and invest heavily in agriculture, highlighting the importance of self-reliance in food production.
The statement underscores IPOB’s commitment to promoting food sufficiency and independence within the Biafran community, emphasizing the need for collective effort and investment in agriculture to achieve these goals.
