In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has incinerated more than 3,065.255kg of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) found on two farms located in the Amahor waterside forest within the Igueben area of Edo State…….READ ALSO
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed this significant operation in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Babafemi, the agency apprehended three suspects—James Thankgod, Wisdom James, and Akpa Festus—in connection with the cannabis farms on Thursday, March 28.
Furthermore, during a separate raid in the Oloma-Okpe forest within the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, authorities seized an additional 278kg of cannabis destined for Idoani in Ondo State.
The agency’s efforts extended to intercepting 127.5kg of cannabis packed in a Volkswagen Vento saloon car along the Isua/Kabba road in the Idoani area of Ose LGA, Ondo State.
In another development, NDLEA spokesperson Babafemi reported the arrest of a 30-year-old female suspect, Chinasa Christopher, in the Sabon Gari area of Kano with 400 bottles of codeine syrup.
Additionally, the agency apprehended Bakura Goni at Mile 2 market in Lagos on Tuesday, March 26, following the interception of an illicit drug consignment along the Zaria-Kano road. Goni, transported to Kano to face charges, was caught with a 73.8kg consignment of cannabis and tramadol being transported from Lagos to Kano.

Court Sentences Man to Four Years for ₦16 Million Money Laundering, Forfeits G-Wagon
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
