The court ruled that the prosecution failed to conclusively establish Tasie’s guilt due to insufficient evidence.

During the trial, Justice Soladoye emphasized the significance of the alleged victim’s testimony, wherein she stated that Tasie was her boyfriend and had not raped her. Additionally, the court noted that the complainant clarified her age during the trial, indicating that she was not a minor at the time of the incident. This revelation further supported Tasie’s innocence and led to his discharge and acquittal.

In her ruling, Justice Soladoye upheld the no-case submission, stating that the prosecution failed to prove the charge of defilement against the defendant. With only one witness called by the prosecution and no further evidence presented, the court found Tasie not guilty of the alleged crime.

The state government had accused Tasie of defiling the purported survivor, who was initially claimed to be 16 years old at the time of the incident. However, during her testimony, the girlfriend clarified that she was 19 years old and affirmed that the sexual encounter with Tasie was consensual. As a result, Tasie has been vindicated and acquitted of all charges, bringing an end to his two-year legal ordeal.
