According to reports gathered by Naija News, Mmesoma was detained by security operatives at the Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, in connection to a land dispute involving her husband. The authorities allegedly failed to locate her husband, who is a member of the community’s vigilante group and a vocal opponent of the attempted illegal sale of communal land by certain elders.

Jude Ikeanyionwu, a concerned resident, lamented the tragic turn of events and called for urgent intervention from Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other influential figures in the state. He expressed grave concern over the escalating tensions and the potential for further loss of lives if the dispute is not resolved peacefully.

“The situation in our kindred now is that those who want to sell our land by force have been harassing us with police from Abuja, such that all the men in the village no longer sleep in their houses for fear of arrest,” Ikeanyionwu revealed.

He emphasized the significance of the shared communal land to the livelihoods of the villagers and condemned the relentless pursuit of the land sale against the wishes of the community members.

“We have no other land, which was why a decision was taken to share the large expanse with the various families, which has been done. It is, therefore, surprising that my uncle, who was chairman of the kindred, insisted on selling the land when we and our children have no other land to lay hands on,” Ikeanyionwu added.

As the community grapples with grief and indignation over the loss of Mmesoma’s pregnancy, calls for justice and resolution echo through the village streets. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of unresolved disputes and the urgent need for peaceful resolution to prevent further tragedy.

reports that Bello is set to contest for the Kogi Central senatorial seat under the APC platform.

He was reportedly adopted as the party’s consensus candidate after picking up the nomination forms on Saturday, signalling early political realignments within the ruling party.

Bello is expected to face the incumbent senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive race.

The contest is likely to revive the longstanding political tension between both figures, which dates back to her initial interest in the senatorial seat during Bello’s time as governor.

Although Akpoti-Uduaghan eventually won the seat in 2023, relations between both politicians have remained strained, with past allegations of threats made by the senator—claims Bello has repeatedly denied.

With Bello’s emergence as the APC candidate, the Kogi Central senatorial election is already shaping up as one of the major political battles ahead of 2027.
