Governor Alex Otti, addressing the congregation at Christ The King Catholic Church (CKC) in Aba, assured pensioners, stating, “Some of you have been owed since 2014. At the end of today, all of you will smile. Check your accounts by the end of business today.”

True to his word, checks conducted by DAILY POST confirmed that the State government had indeed made the pension payments, bringing relief to the retirees who had long awaited this day.

Among the beneficiaries were Mrs. Lucy Samuel Nne, Onyema Agbandu, and Kalu Ogbonna, who expressed their joy upon receiving bank alerts, acknowledging Governor Otti’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise.

The retirees, filled with gratitude, praised Governor Otti for his proactive approach in addressing their plight, contrasting it with the alleged neglect they endured under previous administrations, especially the immediate past.

While Emeka Okezie, Chairman of Concerned Abia Pensioners, known for his advocacy efforts, was unreachable for comment, other pensioners shared their elation at the settlement of their dues.

However, some pensioners reported that they were yet to receive their credit alerts, indicating that the process may still be ongoing.

The resolution of this long-standing issue reflects a positive step forward in honoring the contributions of retired civil servants and ensuring their welfare in Abia State.

Although Akpoti-Uduaghan eventually won the seat in 2023, relations between both politicians have remained strained, with past allegations of threats made by the senator—claims Bello has repeatedly denied.

With Bello’s emergence as the APC candidate, the Kogi Central senatorial election is already shaping up as one of the major political battles ahead of 2027.
