According to SP Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson, the arrests are part of the ongoing efforts by the police to combat kidnapping and other serious crimes, yielding positive results.
The case came to light on March 7, 2024, when Yahaya Adamu, a resident of Badakoshi village in Bauchi LGA, reported to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department. Adamu recounted a distressing incident that occurred on March 4, involving an unidentified caller demanding a ransom of N5 million and threatening to kidnap him or his family members if the demand wasn’t met. The alleged kidnappers later provided bank account details through a Point of Sale (POS) business account to facilitate payment, displaying knowledge of Adamu’s assets and family to enforce compliance.
In response to the report, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Auwal Musa, instructed the CID to conduct a discreet investigation into the matter. Leveraging modern technology, the investigative team successfully traced and apprehended the suspects: Haro Adamu, 35; Aliyu Saidu, 40; and Musa Umaru, 35, hailing from Birnin Kudu town in Jigawa and Kaltunga in Plateau State. Following thorough interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the criminal plot.
The police have announced that legal proceedings will be initiated against the suspects, reaffirming their commitment to prosecuting individuals engaged in criminal activities.

During the proceedings, two of the defendants—Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Adamu—further confessed to utilizing a WhatsApp group named “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to train and incite members toward acts of terrorism. Furthermore, Abdulrazak Umar pleaded guilty to a separate charge of conducting unauthorized illegal gold mining activities along streams in the Chaza area located within Niger State’s Suleja Local Government Area.
