According to Henry Okoye, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the ambush occurred on Saturday along the old Gariki Road, where assailants deployed dynamite against officers conducting a routine security patrol. The ensuing exchange of gunfire claimed the lives of two police officers, while four others managed to survive the attack.

Expressing condemnation of the brutal assault, State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, lamented the loss of the Mopol 18, Owerri personnel. CP Danjuma, accompanied by commanders of Mopol 18 and 64, promptly assessed the situation at the crime scene and directed a coordinated response involving the Command’s Special Tactical Unit and other security agencies to pursue the perpetrators vigorously.

In response to the incident, enhanced security measures have been instituted across Okigwe, including increased visibility patrols, intelligence-led raids on suspect hideouts, and community engagement efforts to gather vital information. CP Danjuma urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear, assuring them of their safety while soliciting their cooperation in combating violent crimes.

Expressing sympathy to the families and colleagues of the deceased officers, CP Danjuma reiterated the commitment of law enforcement authorities to apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring they face the full consequences of their actions.

“This dastardly act will not deter us. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the perpetrators are apprehended and face the full wrath of the law,” vowed CP Danjuma, emphasizing the resolve to uphold peace and security in Imo State despite such cowardly attacks.
