The fatal incident, which occurred on March 15, 2024, involved a Sharon Galaxy vehicle driven by Rabi’u Abdullahi, 50, from Babaldo town in the Gwaram Local Government Area of the state.
According to Adam, the vehicle was en route to Gwaram when tragedy struck. The vehicle, carrying students from Government Girls Secondary School Kaugama who were on vacation to Gwaram, overturned after a tyre burst at Kadirawa Village.
While eight students were treated and discharged at Jahun General Hospital, the driver and six others sustained injuries and were referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for further medical attention.
Preliminary investigations suggested that overloading and worn-out tyres were contributing factors to the accident.
Adam revealed that the bodies of the deceased students were received by the Education Secretary of the Gwaram LGA on behalf of their grieving families.
The loss of these young lives has plunged the community into mourning, highlighting the importance of road safety measures and vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragedies in the future.
