Mounting Pressure On Tinubu Government To Revoke Discos’ Licenses Amid Epileptic Power Supply....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Nigerians are ramping up pressure on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action and revoke the licenses of electricity distribution companies (Discos) in response to the deteriorating state of epileptic power supply across the country…….CONTINUE READING
Citizens have been enduring worsening power outages for the past three months, with many areas experiencing prolonged periods of darkness despite regular payments for electricity services.
From Lagos to Enugu, Abuja to Edo, and Kaduna to various states nationwide, citizens continue to face the challenge of inadequate power supply, highlighting a systemic failure in the nation’s power sector.
With over 92 million Nigerians lacking access to electricity, the country ranks among the lowest globally in terms of electricity access, despite having a generating capacity of 22,000 megawatts.
The persistent power crisis has taken a significant toll on businesses, with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria estimating annual losses of N10.1 trillion, equivalent to nearly two percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
While the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has threatened to revoke Discos’ licenses due to declining power supply, there has been a lack of coherent policy direction and tangible progress in addressing the root causes of the power sector’s challenges.
Experts emphasize the need for institutional strengthening and policy continuity to drive sustainable solutions in the power sector. They advocate for full decentralization of the sector and a shift away from personality-focused governance to empower institutions with a shared vision.
Additionally, stakeholders call for a state of emergency declaration in the power sector and a systemic overhaul of the regulatory ecosystem to promote efficiency and competitiveness.
Furthermore, experts stress the importance of addressing liquidity issues, eliminating electricity subsidies, and promoting private sector participation to stimulate investment and job creation in the sector.
In light of the multifaceted challenges facing the power sector, there is a growing consensus among Nigerians for decisive government action to revitalize the sector and ensure reliable electricity supply for all citizens.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.
Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
-
Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.
-
Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.
Frank Tietie’s Position
-
During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.
-
Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.
-
He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.
-
Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
