The Wake-Wake Association has called on Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State to lift the curfew imposed on tricycle operators in Jalingo, the state capital, ahead of the holy month of Ramadan…….CONTINUE READING
The state government recently enforced a curfew for tricycle operators, prohibiting them from operating between 8pm and 6am daily due to security concerns in the state capital.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Umar Sani Bello, the Wake-Wake Association highlighted the challenges faced by tricycle operators as a result of the curfew. They emphasized that the restriction significantly hampers people’s movement, especially during important religious activities such as Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) and Tahajjudi (Night prayers).
Bello elaborated that Tafsir sessions often run late into the evening, with some starting as late as 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Additionally, Tahajjudi prayers, which occur during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, typically take place between 12:30 am and 4:00 am. The current curfew limits access to mosques and obstructs attendance at these crucial gatherings.
The group underscored the importance of unrestricted movement, particularly during late evening and early morning hours, to enable individuals to fulfill their religious obligations without hindrance.
Expressing confidence in Governor Kefas’s consideration of the Muslim community’s plight, the Wake-Wake Association urged swift action to lift the curfew on tricycle operators during Ramadan. They hope for a positive response to facilitate the smooth observance of religious practices during the holy month.
