Former Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, sheds light on why the Steven Oronsaye’s report was not implemented during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure……..CONTINUE READING
During an interview with journalists on Friday, Shittu clarified that the report was not brought to Buhari’s attention, hence the lack of action.
Shittu, who served in Buhari’s administration from 2015 to 2019, emphasized that since the report was not raised or discussed, there was no need for further consideration.
He stated, “The report had been with the previous government (Jonathan’s) but they didn’t take any action. Nobody brought it to our attention during Buhari’s administration, at least not when I was there. Therefore, it never became a topic for discussion at the Federal Executive Council meetings. Without any complaints or attention drawn to it, there was no reason for us to delve into it.”
Regarding the controversy surrounding the report, Shittu noted that while the Federal Government approved some recommendations aimed at reducing governance costs, civil servants need not fear job losses, as the focus is primarily on eliminating duplication of services, which mainly affects politicians.
He emphasized the importance of national interest over personal interests and expressed confidence that civil servants would not lose their jobs in this context.
