The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has strongly condemned the abduction of 287 students and teachers from GSS Kuriga and LEA Primary School, Kuriga in Kaduna State, labeling it as an assault on education in Northern Nigeria that demands urgent attention……..CONTINUE READING
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof Tukur Muhammad-Baba, on Saturday, ACF expressed grave concern over the series of abductions targeting educational institutions, including the recent incident at Federal University Gusau last year, highlighting the alarming state of security in the country.
The group emphasized the vulnerability of school children to such attacks and urged the Federal Government to move beyond mere directives, demanding tangible results within specific time frames.
“The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) is deeply saddened and dismayed by the mass abduction perpetrated by terrorists/bandits, resulting in the seizure of about 312 students, including 20 reportedly orphaned children, from the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School and Junior Secondary School, along with a principal in Kuriga, Chikun local government area of Kaduna state, on Thursday, March 7th, 2024.
“In a distressing recurrence, terrorists struck once more, targeting worshippers and claiming two lives during Friday prayers at Angwar Makera, Kwasakwasa Community in Birnin Gwari local government area, Kaduna state.
“These coordinated incidents underscore a deeply troubling reality, suggesting premeditated plans and posing a serious challenge despite significant public resources allocated to the security sector.
“Echoing our concerns expressed in July 2023 during the abduction of students from the Federal University Gusau, which sadly remains unresolved, these recent events further underscore the vulnerability of school children in the face of such threats.
“ACF vehemently condemns these incidents and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted students and pupils, unharmed, to their parents/guardians. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
