Last week, police raided a residence on Railroad Avenue in Amityville, but while no human remains were found at the property, more dismembered limbs were discovered hidden in Bethpage State Park and a wooded area in West Babylon. These findings have led authorities to believe that the newly-discovered remains likely belong to the same individuals whose body parts were found earlier in Southards Pond Park in Babylon.
Although the victims have not been publicly identified, investigators revealed that they were a 59-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, both residents of Yonkers in Westchester County. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities assuring the public that there is no immediate threat to safety.
While details surrounding a possible motive remain undisclosed, authorities are exploring whether the murders could be linked to a potential love triangle. The initial discovery of the first body part, a dismembered left arm, was made by a schoolgirl walking to school with friends, prompting swift police action.
During the raid on Monday night, officers forcibly entered a residence on Railroad Ave, encountering several individuals inside. A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
