Naija News reports that Ighodalo emerged victorious in the primary conducted by the ruling party. However, Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, also claimed victory in a parallel primary.

In a statement released on Saturday, Atiku, through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, congratulated Asue Ighodalo for his success in the recent party primary.

The former Vice President emphasized the significance of electing a highly competent technocrat as the PDP candidate for Edo State, highlighting the party’s commitment to ensuring that the next governor is well-suited for the role.

Atiku stated, “The PDP leadership and members in Edo State deserve commendation for conducting a commendable primary election that produced a candidate of exceptional quality to represent our party in the upcoming election.”

He urged all other aspirants and concerned stakeholders to reconcile their differences and work towards maintaining PDP’s stronghold in Edo State.

“Barrister Ighodalo, aside from being a brilliant individual, is also known for his integrity and leadership qualities. I am confident that our candidate possesses the capabilities to unite all those willing to work for the betterment of the PDP,” Atiku added.

Furthermore, he underscored the importance of every PDP member rallying together, particularly in Edo State, to prevent the ruling party, the APC, from spreading hunger and poverty amidst the current hardships faced by Nigerians.
