Naija News reports that the NLC initiated a two-day nationwide protest against the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
The protesters commenced their march at the Ikeja under-bridge in Lagos, expressing their solidarity through songs and chants.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Adegoke Fayoade, alongside some operatives of the command, were present in the nation’s commercial capital to engage with the protesters.
While in Abuja, the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, led the rally in the capital.
Addressing reporters, Ajaero emphasized that the protest aimed to highlight the economic challenges in the country and the government’s failure to honor agreements made with organized labor.
He stated, “There is widespread hunger in the land, and it is evident to all. Our rally is a peaceful demonstration of our hunger. When will the minimum wage be finalized and implemented to alleviate this hunger?”
