According to sources, commercial activities came to a standstill in the market as residents and motorcycle riders scrambled for safety amidst the unrest.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the clash originated on Thursday night when a young man, identified as Abbey, intervened in a dispute between two Hausa men. Tragically, Abbey was allegedly stabbed by an unidentified assailant, leading to his demise and inciting reprisal violence between the Yoruba and Hausa factions in the vicinity.

The escalation of the conflict resulted in the destruction of food supplies, particularly peppers and onions, belonging to Hausa traders in the market.

Although the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, police presence was observed at the scene in an effort to quell the violence and restore order.

In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja has apprehended several officers from the Special Tactical Squad for reportedly extorting N30 million from a citizen unlawfully.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the erring officers were apprehended following the Force’s awareness of the criminal activity through the X platform. The Inspector General of Police emphasized the importance of holding accountable those who betray the public trust bestowed upon them.

This incident underscores the commitment of the Police Force to transparency and accountability, reinforcing the resolve to take decisive action against any misconduct within its ranks.
