Addressing the media on Sunday, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, the President of CBCN, expressed grave concerns over the dire economic situation characterized by escalating hunger, unemployment, insecurity, and soaring living costs.

Ugorji condemned Tinubu’s reform agenda, highlighting the adverse effects of fuel subsidy removal and the devaluation of the Naira, which have led to skyrocketing prices of essential goods and a pervasive decline in living standards.

He lamented the sharp rise in inflation, rendering basic necessities inaccessible to ordinary citizens and pushing millions into abject poverty and desperation, with many resorting to begging for survival.

Expressing disappointment with the government’s handling of economic policies, Ugorji criticized the lack of transparency regarding the purported savings from subsidy removal, noting the government’s reliance on foreign debt to address budget deficits, which jeopardizes the nation’s future.

Ugorji also slammed the government’s ineffective anti-corruption efforts, citing rampant corruption and a lack of accountability among public officials. He called for comprehensive reforms in financial management to curb embezzlement and ensure justice for corrupt individuals.

Furthermore, Ugorji emphasized the critical need for improved security measures, asserting that lasting development is unattainable without adequate security for citizens. He urged the government to prioritize job creation to address youth unemployment, a significant factor contributing to insecurity in the country.

In conclusion, Ugorji urged the government to reevaluate its policies and prioritize the welfare and security of Nigerians to facilitate genuine progress and development.
