Adegboyega Oyetola, Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, has reiterated his commitment to enhancing the operations of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The PCS initiative aims to ensure Nigeria’s compliance with the provisions of the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL) by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The FAL Convention aims to minimize unnecessary delays in maritime traffic, promote government cooperation, and establish standardized procedures and formalities.
Oyetola emphasized the significance of implementing the PCS to position Nigeria to benefit from global trade. He revealed that the implementation of the PCS is a key performance indicator for the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy under the Presidential Performance Bond signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Managing Director/CEO of NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko, highlighted the importance of automation in making ports competitive. He emphasized the efforts made to intensify synergy with the IMO for technical guidance necessary to actualize the PCS, which lays the groundwork for the implementation of the National Single Window.
Koko further discussed the milestones achieved in contracting the IPCSA for consultancy services, indicating the diligence, determination, and discipline required for the successful implementation of this national project.
The collaboration between NPA and the Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller-General Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, demonstrates promising prospects for enhancing business operations and promoting trade in Nigeria.
