Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has allocated over N588.10 million to 19,720 beneficiaries of the Imole Osun Cash Grant Scheme, distributed on Thursday in Osogbo……CONTINUE READING
Represented by the State Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, Governor Adeleke stated that the recipients were selected from the State Social Register for Poor and Vulnerable Households under the State Operation Coordinating Unit, National Social Safety Net Project in the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget, and Development.
The governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to investing in the social protection sector, implementing various high-level social security strategies aimed at alleviating poverty, reducing unemployment, and enhancing productivity.
“In line with this commitment, the State Government of Osun, under my leadership, in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the State Operation Coordinating Unit (SOCU), National Social Safety Net Project, supervised by the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget, and Development, has initiated this disbursement to the underprivileged in the state,” Adeleke stated.
Each beneficiary received a sum ranging between N25,000 and N30,000. Out of the 19,720 recipients, 10,390 individuals with existing bank accounts were able to access and utilize their funds. For the remaining 9,330 beneficiaries without accounts, the governor authorized the issuance of debit cards to facilitate their access to the funds.
Adeleke highlighted that this initiative aligned with the Federal Government’s financial inclusion policy, as it would enable approximately 60,000 individuals to receive ATM cards linked to bank accounts established through the program.
Furthermore, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to social investment, emphasizing that the Five Point Agenda prioritized social welfare, including health, education, agriculture, youth, women, children development, and special needs.
“We promised during our election campaign that we would not abandon the vulnerable. We are dedicated to institutionalizing an all-encompassing and well-coordinated social protection policy to serve as a safety net for the disadvantaged,” Adeleke affirmed.
The objective of this cash intervention, according to the governor, is to provide relief for the poorest and most vulnerable segments of the population in the state.

Party Official Responds
In a conversation with Premium Times on Saturday, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi maintained a neutral stance when asked about the potential pairing. “I don’t have that confirmation. I cannot confirm for you at this time,” Abdullahi stated. While he declined to offer details on the ongoing selection process, he assured the public that the party will officially announce a vice-presidential candidate in due course.
Background to the Speculation
The rumors of a North-East/South-South alliance—pairing Atiku (Adamawa) with Amaechi (Rivers)—have gained traction since the conclusion of the ADC presidential primary, where Amaechi finished as the runner-up to Atiku.
Chieftain Urges Caution
The discourse intensified following claims by party stalwart Dele Momodu that Amaechi was uninterested in the deputy role. ADC chieftain Chukwuemeka Eze has since pushed back against these assertions, clarifying that Amaechi’s previous comments only indicated that he had not been formally approached. Eze further warned party members to avoid spreading unsubstantiated claims that could foster unnecessary friction within the ADC.

Prior to his death, a social media video surfaced in which the couple detailed the demands of their captors, which included the release of three detained individuals—Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru—as well as the return of seized livestock. Amina had pleaded with the Katsina State Government and local leaders to meet these conditions to secure their release.
Although the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu, announced the retired general’s passing, he provided no update regarding the widow’s status, fueling ongoing concerns for her safety. While security sources indicate that rescue efforts are continuing, they have not provided a specific timeline.
A bandit kingpin, Kachalla Muhammad, stated in an audio message that he had previously intended to release the widow but reversed his decision due to the heavy deployment of security personnel in the area. Furthermore, the bandit leader expressed frustration over the arrest of individuals linked to his group, warning that these actions have hindered potential dialogue and reiterated his demands for the release of the three detainees and the return of seized cattle.
