Peseiro’s squad suffered a 2-1 defeat against the hosts in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring for Nigeria with a header from a corner-kick in the 37th minute.
However, Cote d’Ivoire mounted a comeback after the break, securing goals through Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller.
Peseiro admitted in his post-match remarks that his players failed to replicate their previous performances in the competition.
“My players gave their all in this tournament, but Cote d’Ivoire outperformed us in this match. We didn’t reach our usual standard,” Peseiro stated during his media interaction following the game.
“The performance, both individually and collectively, fell short of our expectations.
“Cote d’Ivoire performed better than us. They displayed exceptional skill. While we aimed to claim the trophy, unfortunately, we fell short.
“It’s disappointing; my players share the sentiment. Although our performance was subpar, I cannot fault their effort. They displayed utmost dedication throughout the tournament.
“Such setbacks are part of football. Sometimes, things don’t unfold as planned.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka and made available to newsmen on Saturday.
“The Anambra Police Command has intensified security across the state as preparations heighten for the governor’s second-term inauguration,” the statement said.
“It is working with other security agencies to boost public sensitisation, advocacy, and operational patrols to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free event,” Ikenga added.
He explained that 100 police personnel, recently trained in arms and combat readiness at the Police College, Orji River, will reinforce officers already deployed on the ground.
“These trained officers will complement strategically positioned personnel, strengthen patrols, and enhance intelligence gathering to maintain law and order before, during, and after the inauguration,” he said.
The police urged residents, stakeholders, and visitors attending the event to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel, assuring that all necessary measures have been taken to safeguard dignitaries and members of the public.
SP Ikenga reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that the inauguration is conducted in a safe, peaceful, and secure environment.
Governor Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was elected for a second term in the off-cycle governorship poll held on November 8, 2025.

The decision, approved by President Bola Tinubu on March 5, 2026, was communicated to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for immediate implementation on March 11, 2026.
As part of the directive, the Attorney-General of the Federation has been tasked with amending the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Establishment Act 2022 to reflect the new administrative arrangement. The proposed amendments are to be forwarded to the National Assembly for legislative approval.
The NSIB, established under Act No. 35 of 2022, replaced the former Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), which previously handled only aviation accident investigations.
Unlike the AIB, the NSIB has a broader mandate, covering accident investigations across multiple modes of transportation, including air, marine, rail, and tracked vehicle systems, making it Nigeria’s only multimodal accident investigation authority.
Following the NSIB’s removal from its supervision, the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development now oversees five agencies:
