The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced a thrilling encounter against the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire, ultimately losing 2-1 in a pulsating game on Sunday night.
In a series of posts via his official X handle on Sunday night, Obi praised the Super Eagles for their commendable efforts, highlighting their high energy, stamina, and tactical prowess despite falling short of clinching the trophy.
The LP flagbearer also extended congratulations to the team for their impressive display of talent and football skills that propelled them to an advanced stage in the tournament.
The former Governor of Anambra State emphasized that the outcome of the game did not diminish Nigeria’s status as a hub of talent, as exemplified by the national team.
He wrote: “As we conclude the AFCON tournament with our final match against our African brethren, Cote d’Ivoire, today, we witnessed the Super Eagles demonstrating their best efforts with remarkable energy, stamina, and tactical acumen. Although Cote d’Ivoire emerged victorious and claimed the cup, our national team deserves commendation for their remarkable performance.
“I congratulate our national team and all Nigerians for their remarkable display of talent and football prowess that propelled us far in the tournament.
“The outcome of the game does not diminish Nigeria’s status as a talent powerhouse, as evidenced by our national team. Once again, our players, with their exceptional performance, energy, and determination, embodied the resilient spirit of the Nigerian people, the giants of Africa, who persevere in the face of challenges to achieve success in all spheres of life. It was a fierce battle on the football field, and I commend their professionalism, dedication, and pursuit of success.
“I sincerely appreciate and congratulate the Nigeria Football Federation, the Super Eagles Coach, the management, the technical and medical staff, and all those who sacrificed tirelessly to achieve our victory today. Their efforts were not in vain.
“Today, as a nation, the flame of unity was reignited among us as we rallied together as one large family to support our national team and pray for their victory. In our journey to the New Nigeria we envision, we must unite as one and collectively build our nation.”
Obi also expressed condolences to Nigerians who lost their lives while watching the semifinal match between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
He added: “We will overcome all challenges hindering our progress if we stand united. To our fellow compatriots who lost their lives while cheering for our dear nation during the football matches, we remember and mourn them today. These compatriots, wishing nothing but victory for our beloved nation, tragically lost their lives while praying for our triumph.
“We are saddened by their absence today to witness our nation’s victory physically. May God grant them eternal rest and grant their families, as well as all of us, the strength to bear their irreplaceable loss. I extend heartfelt congratulations to the AFCON Champions, Cote d’Ivoire.
“They fought valiantly and emerged victorious in the end. I salute them and wish them and their nation the very best as we collectively strive to build the New Africa we all aspire to.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda said the election results are a clear vote of confidence in the APC’s governance philosophy and the ongoing reforms of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
“The overwhelming victory recorded by our great party in Ekiti State and our remarkable success in recent bye-elections across the country represent a powerful endorsement of the APC,” Yilwatda stated.
The chairman emphasized that despite current economic challenges, the results indicate that Nigerians are still willing to choose the party at the polls. He argued that voters can distinguish between temporary difficulties and the long-term benefits of essential economic restructuring, infrastructure development, and institutional renewal.
According to the APC chair, performance is the most potent campaign message in democratic politics. He cited Oyebanji’s re-election as a reward for visionary leadership, inclusive governance, prudent resource management, and visible development achievements in areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and infrastructure.
Yilwatda further said the Ekiti election has become a national reference point for the party, proving that performance-based governance remains electorally rewarding.
The outcome should be viewed within the broader context of Tinubu’s reform agenda, which he stated is laying the foundation for a more resilient, productive, and competitive Nigerian economy.
