Olaitan, eagerly anticipating his wedding the following Sunday, succumbed to the stress induced by the dramatic turn of events in the game, notably after a controversial penalty was awarded to South Africa following a VAR check.

This pivotal decision not only annulled Nigeria’s second goal but also plunged numerous fans into a state of shock and panic.

The contentious referee ruling has been associated with the premature deaths of approximately five individuals, including a youth corps member, a former House of Representatives member, and a business mogul based in Ivory Coast, among others.

Despite the Super Eagles’ subsequent triumph, clinching a 4-2 victory on penalties, the incident has cast a pall over the festivities, underscoring the intense emotional investment of fans in the sport.

During the Fidau prayers held for the late deputy bursar on Saturday, a family member, Ayuba Akeem, spoke to Daily Trust, confirming that the deceased was scheduled to celebrate his Nikkah on Sunday.

Akeem fondly recalled Olaitan, describing him as a “philanthropist to the core,” a testament to his character and the profound impact he had on those around him.

He remarked, “He was an incredibly generous man and a cornerstone of the family. He exhibited kindness towards family members, political associates, and colleagues, always ready to bring joy within his capacity, regardless of the challenges people faced.”

Contrary to external narratives, Akeem emphasized that Olaitan’s death was preordained by the Almighty at the precise moment and place, unrelated to the football match. He asserted that even if Olaitan hadn’t watched the game, his passing would have occurred at that hour.

Another family member and colleague, Aisha, recounted their last moments with Olaitan, highlighting his apparent good health and demeanor before the tragic incident.

Saraki, represented by a former House of Assembly member and ex-APC chairman in the state, Hon Ishola Balogun Fulani, bestowed university scholarships upon two of the deceased’s children during the ceremony. Saraki eulogized Olaitan as a community leader and family man whose absence would be deeply felt.

He prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
