In an interview with Saturday Vanguard, following her appointment as the Special Assistant on Gender Equality to the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Chief Emeka Rollas, Tracy Edwin opens up about her experiences with men and her return to acting after a six-year hiatus.

AGN President, Chief Emeka Rollas, recently appointed you as the SSA on Gender Equality. How do you plan to approach this new role?

Gender equality is a subject I’m deeply familiar with, and I’m excited that AGN has chosen to address it. In our society, particularly in Nollywood, there’s often a disparity between male and female professionals, with men receiving more opportunities. Women possess the skills and talent necessary for various roles, including directing and cinematography, and it’s time they are given equal chances. Through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, I aim to amplify the voices of women and provide them with opportunities to shine, starting with my own film productions where women will receive equitable pay.

Do you believe women face marginalization in Nollywood?

I believe it varies based on one’s stature in the industry. Similar to other sectors like banking, there’s no one-size-fits-all scenario

He further emphasized his influence by pointing out his victory in Delta Central, where he claimed to have defeated the governor’s candidate by a margin of roughly 15,000 votes.
