AFCON Final: Rufai And Yobo Offer Encouragement To Eagles
AFCON Final: Rufai And Yobo Offer Encouragement To Eagles....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Premier League commends Super Eagles’ Iwobi, Aina, and others for advancing to AFCON final.
The imminent final of the 2023 AFCON in Abidjan presents a narrative akin to a Nollywood blockbuster. Two teams once within the same group, Nigeria finishing second behind Equatorial Guinea, while Ivory Coast, initially favored to top the group, barely clinched a spot as one of the best third-place finishers.
In a pivotal encounter on Match Day 2 of the tournament, Nigeria secured a solitary goal victory against Ivory Coast through William Troost-Ekong’s well-executed penalty. Their journey has come full circle, propelled by diligence, commitment, and purpose, leading them to the final. The lingering question is: Who will emerge victorious in this final showdown to claim the title of African champion?
Nigeria and Ivory Coast share a storied history. In April 1994 in Tunisia, Nigeria triumphed over Ivory Coast in the semifinals. The Super Eagles boasted luminaries such as the late Rashidi Yekini, Sunday Oliseh, current assistant coach George Finidi, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Emmanuel Amuneke, Daniel Amokachi, among others—an ensemble that stands as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished teams in recent memory.
In 2013 in South Africa, under the stewardship of the late Coach Stephen Keshi, the Super Eagles once again prevailed over Ivory Coast in the semifinals en route to clinching the trophy. We reached out to Peter Rufai, the guardian of the Eagles in the 1994 squad, fondly referred to as the Dodo Mayana of Nigerian football, and Joseph Yobo, captain of the 2013 team, to impart words of wisdom to the Eagles as they embark on a journey reminiscent of their past triumphs.
First, Yobo’s message:
“I believe the Super Eagles have endured the necessary challenges to reach the final. They must maintain their intensity, focus, and manage the game effectively, as Ivory Coast will seek retribution after our previous victories over them in this tournament. Our aim is to secure the trophy.
“There’s little to fault about this team—they didn’t begin strongly, which is typical of great teams, but they have evolved with each game, finding a winning formula and fostering unity. They’ve done nearly everything right.
“Furthermore, players should strive for personal glory, recognizing that the opportunity to become continental champions seldom arises. For some, this may be their final chance to seize such glory before retirement. As someone who won AFCON on my sixth attempt, I understand the value of this opportunity. Bronze and silver don’t compare to gold. Therefore, if you find yourself in a final, seize the moment, for it may be your last chance in your career.
“I commend the team’s coach, Jose Peseiro, and his staff for guiding the team to this stage. They’ve discovered a winning formula, evidenced by our defensive solidity. As we aim for victory, let’s manage any lead we gain more effectively to avoid a repeat of the South Africa match, as the final will be fiercely contested.”

“I Have Jonathan’s Certificate Of Return!” – Agbedi Drops Shocking Political Claim.
Fredrick Agbedi, a House of Representatives member representing Bayelsa State, has called on Nigerians to applaud the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for encouraging former President Goodluck Jonathan to make a political comeback. Regarding the former president’s potential candidacy, Agbedi remarked:
-
The PDP has repeatedly discussed Jonathan’s potential run, and the internal processes are nearly finished.
-
He is currently in possession of the official Certificate of Return, which is intended for presentation to Jonathan.
-
Given Jonathan’s track record of “credible transformation” during his tenure, Agbedi argued that citizens should support the PDP’s efforts to nominate him as a solution to Nigeria’s current challenges.
-
Emphasizing the spirit of national service, Agbedi questioned the opposition to Jonathan’s potential return, asking where else a dedicated leader should serve if not for the betterment of his own country.
-
He confirmed that should Jonathan choose to run, it would be under the banner of the PDP.

“Oborevwori Ran To APC Because I Am A Threat”: Omo-Agege Drops Political Bombshell.
Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege recently alleged that Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to fears regarding electoral competition. Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, Omo-Agege claimed the Governor’s decision was motivated by political survival rather than ideological alignment. He further emphasized his influence by pointing out his victory in Delta Central, where he claimed to have defeated the governor’s candidate by a margin of roughly 15,000 votes. Omo-Agege also attributed the recent wave of defections from the PDP to the APC to his post-election mobilization efforts across the state. Despite the Governor’s shift in party affiliation, Omo-Agege expressed confidence in his political influence and remains certain of his electoral base leading into 2027.
