This groundbreaking initiative marks what is arguably the first instance of a film-scripted narrative being translated into a stage production in the annals of Nollywood history.

Originally directed in 1993 by the renowned filmmaker Tunde Kelani, “Ti Oluwa Nile” narrates the tale of two individuals who collude with a corrupt chief to unlawfully sell ancestral land to a petroleum company for personal enrichment.

However, their machinations encounter staunch resistance from the community and the intervention of the oracle, representing the sacred deities of the land. As the true ownership of the land is unveiled and consequences unfold, the chief finds himself ensnared in a web of trials that challenge his destiny and traditional stature, culminating in a climactic confrontation that will determine his ultimate fate.

The stage adaptation, retitled “Asiyanbi: Ti Oluwa Ni Ile,” is executive produced by Oladotun Taylor and directed by Ropo Ewenla.

Expressing his initial reaction to the project, Ewenla remarked, “I was somewhat taken aback when I was initially approached about the project. While I recognize that creativity knows no bounds, this genuinely caught me off guard.

However, since our collaboration began, it has been an immensely gratifying experience, witnessing the level of innovation and the caliber of the team, cast, and crew assembled by the producers. I can confidently assure Nigerians and the global audience that this is ‘Ti Oluwa Nile’ reimagined.

It’s an experience that I believe everyone should witness, and being the inaugural director of such a project fills me with pride.”

Baba Wande, pleasantly surprised by the stage adaptation, remarked, “This is a historic endeavor. While I am the custodian of the story, I must confess that I am deeply grateful to be part of this project.

To the best of my knowledge and experience, this is the first instance in this country where a story adapted into a film is being readapted into a stage play.

I have neither seen nor heard of such an occurrence in this realm before. I extend my heartfelt commendations to the originators and producers of this project for their ingenuity. I am delighted to be part of it in my lifetime, and I wholeheartedly support it.”
