It has been gathered that Shettima will be present at Sunday’s decisive encounter scheduled to take place at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan.
According to reports from SocreNigeria, the vice president will be accompanied by several high-ranking government officials on the trip to Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to clash with the Elephants of Ivory Coast once again in the final at 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, following their previous meeting in the group stage.
Shettima had previously traveled to Cote d’Ivoire on the eve of the team’s semi-final triumph against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
During that visit, the country’s second-in-command witnessed the game live at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake, and later joined the players and officials in the dressing room for celebrations after the victory.
‘Awa Lokan’ – Tinubu Encourages Super Eagles of Nigeria Ahead of 2023 AFCON Final
President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has offered words of encouragement to the Super Eagles, urging them to clinch victory in the 2023 AFCON, emphasizing that ‘Awa Lokan’.
‘Awa Lokan’ is a Yoruba expression meaning “it is our turn”, which gained prominence during President Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign.
In essence, the president wants the Super Eagles of Nigeria to view the 2023 edition of the AFCON as their opportunity to win the tournament, especially considering their last victory 13 years ago.
Their previous triumph was in South Africa in 2013 under the guidance of the late Stephen Keshi. Since then, they have not reached the final until this ongoing edition.
The Super Eagles secured their spot in the final after finishing second in Group A with one draw and two wins, including a 1-0 victory over hosts Ivory Coast. They subsequently defeated Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa to advance to the final.
