He said the party would not shut out any eligible member, noting that key requirements such as membership status and financial standing must be met before anyone can contest. Otti, who also serves as the party’s National Leader, made this known on Thursday in Abuja after attending the inaugural meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC). He stated that democracy guarantees participation for all qualified aspirants, adding that the final decision rests with the people. “If you meet the requirements of the party and you want to run, we will give you a ticket. Democracy does not stop anybody who wants to contest. It is the people who will decide who leads them,” he said. Otti reaffirmed that the Labour Party presidential ticket remains open to all eligible members ahead of the 2027 general elections. He expressed confidence in the newly constituted leadership that emerged from the party’s recent national convention, saying it has the capacity to reposition the LP. He also congratulated the National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and members of the 13-man NWC, noting that the strong turnout at the meeting reflected unity within the party. “I would like to congratulate the National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee for being found worthy to lead the party for the next four years. We have absolute confidence in her ability to lead,” he said. Otti further explained that the party is working to strengthen its internal democratic structures, including primaries and voting processes, ahead of future elections. Addressing concerns about internal divisions, he said the recent convention showed wider participation, with over 25 state chairmen—including some from previous factions—present. According to him, this development reflects growing reconciliation and a gradual strengthening of unity within the party.

The electoral body also named former Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as the party’s National Secretary, while Dr. Mani Ibrahim Ahmed was listed as National Treasurer and Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary.
A review of the INEC portal shows that the changes followed Thursday’s Supreme Court judgment concerning the ADC leadership dispute.
Naija News recalls that the Supreme Court, on Thursday, affirmed the faction of the ADC led by David Mark in its ruling on the long-standing internal crisis within the party.
The dispute had earlier influenced INEC’s decision to withhold recognition of competing leadership claims, as it cited prior court judgments and ongoing litigation.
INEC had also previously removed both Mark and Aregbesola from its official records, following a Court of Appeal ruling, and maintained a neutral stance by recognising no faction pending the resolution of the case.
However, the Supreme Court later set aside the order directing the maintenance of the “status quo ante bellum,” holding that the appellate court acted beyond its powers after already dismissing the case before it.
In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, the apex court described the earlier order as unnecessary and improper.
The court further ruled that David Mark’s appeal succeeded in part, while dismissing aspects relating to an ex parte order issued by the Federal High Court.
It also directed all parties to return to the trial court for continuation of proceedings on the matter.
