Nwoko emphasized that if Abbo fails to substantiate his claims, he must issue an apology to Appeal Court President, Justice Chioma Iheme, and the entire judiciary.

Abbo had previously accused the President of the Court of Appeal and others of accepting bribes in the judgment that led to his removal from the Senate.

In response to Abbo’s allegations, Nwoko released a statement on behalf of the Court of Appeal President and others implicated in the bribery accusations. He asserted that the judiciary and its officers cannot be intimidated or subjected to criminal blackmail.

Nwoko pointed out the absence of any evidence provided by Abbo to support his bribery allegations against the judiciary.

He highlighted Abbo’s reckless remarks during a press conference on February 1, 2024, where the senator labeled the President of the Court of Appeal as a “cash-and-carry Judge” and accused judges of soliciting bribes through their children and agents.

Expressing dismay at Abbo’s audacity to tarnish the reputation of justices and the judiciary, Nwoko challenged the senator to present verifiable evidence to substantiate his claims or face legal consequences.

Nwoko criticized Abbo’s conduct, reminding the public of the senator’s previous controversy involving a sex toy shop in Abuja. He condemned Abbo’s attempt to besmirch the integrity of the judiciary due to his dissatisfaction with a legal outcome.

The statement concluded with a firm stance, urging Abbo to uphold the rule of law and provide evidence to support his serious allegations against the judiciary or be prepared to face legal ramifications.

Strategic Partnership Details

  • Formal Agreement: The two agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the NDLEA headquarters.

  • Joint Working Committee: A committee will be established to ensure the agreement translates into tangible operational results.

Rationale for Collaboration

  • Shared Criminal Networks: NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), noted that criminal syndicates often engage in both narcotics trafficking and the piracy of creative works, using proceeds from one illicit activity to finance the other.

  • Economic and Social Impact: NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, emphasized that organized piracy is a major criminal enterprise that undermines Nigeria’s creative economy, destroys jobs, and weakens national security.

  • Intersecting Supply Chains: Both agencies identified that the same clandestine networks, transportation routes, and financial channels used for drug trafficking are frequently utilized to distribute pirated goods and launder criminal proceeds.

  • Inter-Agency Synergy: The leadership of both organizations highlighted the importance of moving away from isolated operations toward a collaborative model that leverages the specific expertise and intelligence capabilities of each agency.

The initiative aims to more effectively disrupt illegal supply chains, dismantle criminal structures, and protect both the creative sector and the general public from the influence of organized crime.
