A local resident, Ibrahim Sani, recounted that the armed bandits, numbering a significant amount, infiltrated the village on foot around 11:45 pm, leaving their motorcycles outside the settlement. Sani mentioned that the bandits, armed with advanced weaponry, initiated indiscriminate shooting upon their arrival to instill fear among the residents.
The invaders proceeded to ransack homes in search of food items and valuable possessions, making off with a substantial number of animals, food supplies, and other valuables. In the course of their activities, they encountered a recently married couple and forcibly took them into the forest.
Sani lamented the absence of security personnel assigned to the village, despite the prevalent security challenges in the state. Urging the authorities to deploy security forces promptly, he warned of potential relocation if swift action is not taken.
As of the time of reporting, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, was unavailable for comment.
Meanwhile, the state government has finalized plans to launch its Community Protection Guards on the upcoming Wednesday. These guards will be deployed to their respective localities to assist security forces in the ongoing battle against banditry.
Zamfara State has been grappling with recurrent bandit attacks, resulting in loss of lives and the abduction of numerous individuals in recent months. In December 2023, Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi LGA, experienced a bandit invasion leading to casualties and abductions. Additionally, in November 2023, four communities in Maru LGA were deserted after bandits kidnapped 110 people for failing to pay a monthly levy to a notorious bandit kingpin.

Rationale for Collaboration

-
Economic and Social Impact: NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, emphasized that organized piracy is a major criminal enterprise that undermines Nigeria’s creative economy, destroys jobs, and weakens national security.
-
Intersecting Supply Chains: Both agencies identified that the same clandestine networks, transportation routes, and financial channels used for drug trafficking are frequently utilized to distribute pirated goods and launder criminal proceeds.
-
Inter-Agency Synergy: The leadership of both organizations highlighted the importance of moving away from isolated operations toward a collaborative model that leverages the specific expertise and intelligence capabilities of each agency.
The initiative aims to more effectively disrupt illegal supply chains, dismantle criminal structures, and protect both the creative sector and the general public from the influence of organized crime.
